Promoting Honesty in a Dishonest World

We like to think that we’re good and honest people but the truth is that everyone lies a little bit, some of the time. How do we reconcile the view we have of ourselves as good moral people with dishonest behavior? We rationalize our behavior to so that it doesn’t feel like we’ve done anything wrong. In other words, we fudge it a bit by telling stories to ourselves.

In her talk, Jamie will describe how cheating is studied at the Center for Advanced Hindsight and what the lab has learned about dishonesty, the fudge factor, broken vending machines, and what we can do in our personal and professional lives to be a little more honest.
