Volunteer at Freeport Wood Bank

** LAST-MINUTE OPPORTUNITY** Ever heard of a wood bank? It's like a food bank....but with wood! The Freeport Wood Bank cuts, splits, stacks and delivers wood to families in the towns of Freeport, Durham and Pownal who need help heating their homes in the wintertime. The temperatures are dropping and the need is rising, and they are always looking for volunteers.

I'm putting together a small group of volunteers for this Saturday October 18th from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Come for a couple of hours to help out if you can! Space will be limited to 6 people for this. I'll also set up a separate post-stacking beer-and-pizza event just down the road at Maine Beer Company for those who want to unwind afterwards (or those who might skip the wood-stacking part and just head straight to the beer and pizza).

The address is 100 Hedgehog Mountain Road in Freeport. Look for the Transfer Station (set of red buildings) on your right. Just past that, you'll see a small green "Freeport Wood Bank" sign just before a dirt road you follow to the right for a few hundred yards to get to the spot where the work is done. Those participating will need to sign a liability waiver when you arrive. Most of us will stack, but if anyone is experienced working a splitter let me know via private message as it will help us prep. Wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves if you have them (though they usually have spares to share). I've done this a few times now and have had a really positive experience.
