Fairland Recreational Park Trails 7 miles

DESCRIPTION: This approximately 7 mile hike will be on various trails of the Fairland Recreational Park. Elevation gain is approximately 420 ft. Trails will be natural surface with the usual tree roots, rocks, a few stream crossings on rocks, and some areas of the trail that get muddy. Please sign up for this hike only if you have hiked similar distances. Main photo above is one of the stream crossings on rocks.

This hike will be canceled if there is inclement weather. Please watch for info posted to the event for any weather concerns or last minute changes due to unforeseen situations.

Hike START time: We will START hiking at 8:30 am so please arrive earlier to be ready to go at 8:30 am.

PARKING: Parking lot to the right of The Gardens Ice House Arena (ice skating rink) at 13800 Old Gunpowder Road, Laurel, MD 20707. (see photo below indicating where to park.) Turn off Old Gunpowder Rd. then make a left into the parking area which will be on the opposite side of the access road from the playground. Then go to the far right corner of the parking lot away from the ice rink building.

MEETING PLACE: Far right corner of parking lot at the trail head (see photo below.)

LEADER: Kathy - I will be wearing a mask when near people, but it is not required

These can be caused by slipping or falling off rocks due to loss of balance or lack of coordination; twisting ankles on rocks, brush, limbs, or ice; Acts of nature such as rock falls, inclement weather, lightning, strong wind, extreme temperatures; drownings in rivers, streams, or other bodies of water; drinking unfiltered contaminated water or becoming dehydrated; succumbing to heat exhaustion; getting bit or stung by venomous reptiles, animals, or insects; and my own or other’s negligent or risky behaviors. This list is not exhaustive nor is it inclusive of all risks. In response, I release and hold harmless with respect to all injury, disability, death, or loss of property, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, the “Active Adventures” meetup group’s leadership as well as the designated hike leaders for this hike.

COVID-19: This event is for people who have been FULLY VACCINATED against COVID and are NOT showing any symptoms of sickness, or who have not had recent exposure to COVID. If you have been exposed or are sick, please stay home. There will be plenty of future opportunities to hike with us. Masks and social distancing are not required while outdoors but may be required for indoor portions of events.
