Welcome to my first hosting gig! We’re shaking off the winter hibernation with an easy-ish stroll through some very old scenery. This is a low-pressure zone—if I take a wrong turn, we just call it an "extended scenic detour."
The Terrain:
Expect a 50-acre mix of everything. We’ve got:
Glacial Erratics: Huge, odd-shaped boulders dropped by ice 13,000 years ago. Perfect for leaning against when you need to pretend you aren't out of breath. Fort Rock: A massive boulder split in half. Great for photos or hiding from the group if I’m talking too much about rocks. Vernal Pools: Seasonal nurseries for frogs and salamanders. If you see something slimy and cute, don't step on it.The "Wildlife Corridor": Where coyotes, deer, and foxes hang out. We'll try to look less like snacks and more like hikers.
We are going rain or shine—unless the rain is coming down sideways and we’re essentially swimming through the woods. If it’s just a New England drizzle, we’ll consider it "free hydration."
After we finish pretending to be outdoorsy, we’re heading to Dirigible Brewing Company 24 Porter Rd Littleton, MA. Cousins Maine lobster truck will be on site at noon. Live music begins at 1:00 PM for those interested. Since this is my first time hosting, I can’t guarantee I won't get us slightly turned around in the woods, but I can guarantee there will be beer at the end.
Parking: Plenty of space in the field off Newtown Road. Look for the opening in the fence near the kiosk. Hike difficulty: Easy. If the 400-million-year-old rocks can handle it, so can you.
