Magpie Creek, Cascades and Sturt Gorge loop. 9:00am - 10km

Details
Magpie Creek, Cascades and Sturt Gorge - this starts on the Adelaide 100 trail, goes down to the Cascades and joins on to the River trail to traverse Sturt Gorge. About 10 km and 3 hrs.
This trail has plenty to offer with beautiful flowing creeks, open grassy fields and lots of wildlife and pretty flora to look at. Not to mention those views!
Starting at the Coromandel Train Station upper car park in Blackwood, we will follow the Adelaide 100 trail behind Wittunga Botanic Gardens, then will cross the red pedestrian bridge down to Trevor Terrace and Magpie Creek.
We will traverse Magpie Creek across multiple small creek crossings and will use a mix of popular tracks in the area to meander through to Sturt Gorge. From here we will pick up the River Trail and head down to the Cascades for a short break. Then we will follow the Sturt River through Sturt Gorge, exploring the rugged beauty of the river and rocky gorges. The water level is low, so we will be able to cross the river easily, climbing over large rocks. We will then return along the other side of the river, and back via Magpie Creek.
Medium pace for reasonably fit hill hikers. Pace is about 4 kph up hills. Some steepish parts. Great views. Bring water, and good footwear. A walking pole is recommended.
Coffee afterwards at local cafe.
Map location pin here is correct.
Note Walking SA classifies this walk as Grade 4 Hard Hike, however the low water levels makes it easier as we won't be rock hopping over water.
If you change your mind please change your attendance in meetup. To be fair to those on time we’ll only wait 5 mins for any latecomer.
