#PDNYC is back for the May installment! Whether it's CISPA, COPPA, DNT or a host of other privacy/personal data issues, Washington D.C. will undoubtedly play a large role in shaping the future of online privacy. For this month's #PDNYC, we are thrilled to have expert panelists to discuss the "View from Washington". In addition, we are going to have a company demo from Disconnect.me, Co-Founder Casey Oppenheim.

Sarah Hudgins:
Sarah Hudgins is the Director of Public Policy for IAB in its Washington, D.C. office. Sarah is responsible for government relations with the United States Congress and Executive Branch of the Federal Government. As the industry’s liaison to third-party organizations and regulatory bodies, she helps advance advertising policy issues, including telecommunications and mobile platforms, privacy, and the First Amendment. Prior to IAB, Sarah was the Senior Manager of Federal Government Affairs for the Entertainment Software Association, covering various policy issues for the video game publishing industry. Her previous experience also includes government affairs and regulatory policy support for the magazine publishing industry, and federal election campaign advance work. She is a founding board member of the Global Women’s Innovation Network, and member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association. Sarah holds a J.D. from the Catholic University of America and a B.A. in Political Science and Communication Studies from the University of Iowa.

Joel Reidenberg:
Joel R. Reidenberg holds the Stanley D. and Nikki WaxbergChair in Law and is the Founding Academic Director of theCenter on Law and Information Policy at FordhamUniversity School of Law. He has served as the President ofFordham University’s Faculty Senate and previously held theposition of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairsand Associate Chief Academic Officer of the University.Reidenberg’s published books and articles explore bothinformation privacy and information technology law andpolicy. He teaches courses in Intellectual Property Law, Internet Law and InformationPrivacy. He has served as an expert adviser to the U.S. Congress, the Federal TradeCommission and the European Commission. He has also chaired the Section on Defamationand Privacy of the Association of American Law Schools (the academic society forAmerican law professors) and is a former chair of the association's Section on Law andComputers. Reidenberg received an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College (1983), a J.D. from Columbia University (1986), and both a D.E.A. droit international économique (1987) and a Ph.Din law from the Université de Paris –Sorbonne (2003). He is admitted to the Bars of NewYork and the District of Columbia.

Casey Oppenheim: Disconnect.me
Casey’s career has been dedicated to public-interest and justice-based causes. He founded Disconnect to give individuals the power to control their digital selves and make the use of online information more transparent. A personal data activist, Casey has organized events, written essays, been quoted and presented at leading universities and conferences on issues related to personal data and privacy rights. Before founding Disconnect, Casey spent a decade as a consumer-rights advocate and attorney. Casey was an early project manager then General Counsel at the Organic Consumers Association, which he helped take online and evolve into one of the world’s leading nonprofits advocating for food safety and sustainable agriculture. As an attorney in private practice, Casey’s passion for social justice and technology led him to take on casework in diverse areas of the law, including civil and consumer rights, environmental and corporate law, privacy, criminal defense, and intellectual property. Casey has also acted as a board advisor and in-house counsel for a number of tech companies. Casey earned his J.D. Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota, where he was a Royal Stone Scholar, and his B.A. from the University of Minnesota, where he was a Scholar Athlete
