What we’re about

Hello! This group is for those with ADHD who need support in the form of body doubling, and learning tips and tricks from peers. This is not a therapy group or an alternative to real therapy. It is meant to be a presence when tedious or hard tasks need to get done, with the support of others who understand the struggle.

The benefits of body doubling include increased focus, enhanced productivity, reduced procrastination, improved motivation, and better time management, primarily by providing external accountability and creating a calm, supportive work environment. The presence of another person, whether in person or virtually, acts as a gentle reminder to stay on task and can provide a sense of connection and reduce feelings of isolation and stress. This strategy is particularly helpful for those with ADHD and other executive function challenges but can be used by anyone looking to improve their ability to complete tasks.

The effectiveness of body doubling can be understood through several concepts, such as Social Facilitation Theory, which suggests that the presence of others can enhance performance. It also draws on Polyvagal Theory, where feeling safe and connected shifts the brain into a social engagement response, improving concentration.

NOTE: This group is intended only for those with ADD, ADHD, or AuDHD who need the support of body doubling.

Group Rules:

Communication and conduct:
• This is a judgement-free space, always.
• Be respectful and courteous. Treat all participants with kindness, even when you disagree. Personal attacks, harassment, or demeaning language are unacceptable.
• Listen more than you speak. Allow others to finish their thoughts before you chime in. In groups with many participants, use the "raise hand" feature or the chat box to indicate you want to speak.
• No hate speech or bullying. Explicitly prohibit degrading comments related to race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other personal characteristics.
• No political or religious chat or discussions.
• Protect privacy. Do not share personal information about other members without their consent.

Meeting etiquette:
• Be on time. Arrive a few minutes early to set up your technology. Arriving late can disrupt the flow of the conversation.
• Mute when not speaking. This prevents background noise, such as typing, from distracting others.
• Use video when possible. For small, social groups, using video helps build a more personal connection. For larger professional meetings, it may be optional.
Technical and logistical
• Test your technology in advance. Check your camera, microphone, and internet connection before the meetup begins.
• Join from a quiet location. Minimize background noise as much as possible out of respect for others on the call.
• Know how to use the platform. Be familiar with the software's features, like how to mute and unmute, use the chat, and raise your hand.

Violation of these rules will result in a warning and/or removal from the group.
