Kunjamuk Day Trip

Details
An Adirondack classic considered by many a must paddle of the adirondacks. The trip starts at Speculator on the very wide Sacandaga River, after a little less than 2 miles it turns left into the very narrow Kunjamuk and almost immediately runs into beaver dams. From there it’s almost 5 miles upstream to Elm Lake, crossing multiple dams and blowdown. This is a long paddle, I recommend bringing a lunch, and plenty of water, we willl stop at a sand bar or appropriate location if possible on the way up to eat. Difficulty: Hard, total trip distance is 14-15 miles and can take 5-6 hours. There are multiple beaver dams to cross and blowdown down will be a problem. While there are no portages, be prepared to carry your boat. PFDs are required to be worn on our trips, a whistle or other appropriate sounding device is required. We are going in the middle of July, dress appropriately, watch the weather, and bring bug spray and sun block. We willl be getting out and going over blow down and dams, wear appropriate foot gear.
