Essex Chain Lake Camping trip

Details
Two nights, three days on the Essex Chain Lakes. From the Deer Pond parking Lot there is a short, wheelable 1/4 mile portage to Deer Pond. From Deer Pond we have options, one such option is to camp on Deer Pond, from here we can base camp and venture out for day trips. The advantage to camping on Deer Pond is flexability regarding day trippers and people who only want to spend one night. For a more rugged wilderness experience however, we can camp on any of the Chain Lakes. Regardlessess of where we camp there is a 1/2 mile (also wheelable) portage from Deer Pond to Third Lake. From Third Lake we have many paddling options that could take days to fully explore with a minimum of portages. The weather in september can be cold and unpredictable, proper gear for both paddling and sleeping will be necessary, watch the weather. I recommend warm, synthetic layers and a dry bag with warm dry clothes. Dinner for just the first night is communal and willl include Johnsonville brats with buns and a side, if you’d like to participate and bring something please reach out. All other meals are the participant’s responsibility, no one is required to participate in the communal dinner. This is a diverse group of paddlers with years of experience and lots of gear, if you’re not sure what to bring or need to borrow a piece of gear, please do not hesitate to reach out. PFDs are required to be worn on our paddles. A whistle or other appropriate sounding device is required.
