Annual Raquette River Camping trip
Details
Cold water trip, bring a dry suit
3 Days, 2 Nights
Our first camping trip of the year in our traditional spot. I love this trip as the high water allows us to paddle in and amoung the trees, it is amazing. This year I’d like to travel up to Raquette Falls as time permits, there are several nice camping spots between Corey’s Road and the Falls, the best spot is near the bridge where stony Creek solits from the River, and offers a good spot to base from for day trips. The last day it is fun to spot some cars at the crusher and paddle the 8 miles down stream on the way out.
Difficultculty: intermediate; this is all flat water and does not exceed 10 miles in a day with total distance less than 30 miles in three days, but the water will be very cold and will be very swift in the channels. Also, with the run off swelling the banks the actual channel can be hard to find and it is easy to get turned around.
Food: Dinner the first night will be brats with sauerkraut, and a side. This will be a communal dinner and you are welcome to being something to share, but not required or obligated to, also feel free not to participate. All other meals will be your responsibility. This will be a cold weather trip, if you bring a water filter be sure you protect it from freezing.
Safety: This is a cold weather trip and the water will be running fast and cold, WEAR A DRY SUIT. Also this time of year PFDs are legally required to be worn at all times on the water. Bring a whistle and light as well. Expect cold weather, wear layers and have appropriate sleeping attire and gear. If you need anything please reach out to me.
