Highland Forest

Let's go to Highland Forest! Monica Auger was going to do a longer hike at Highland back early June, so we are revisiting a piece of it. We will be hiking on the Onondaga Trail (Map O2) that runs thru the park. Let's meet at 8 a.m. at Hobby Lobby in Dewitt. If you prefer and know the parking area at Cowles Settlement Road, you can meet us there. Please let me know if doing so. We will leave Hobby Lobby at 8:10 a.m. We would meet at trailhead parking approximately 8:50 a.m.

• Hiking from Cowles Settlement Road, we will meander up to the Skyline Visitor Center. The mileage one way to the Visitor Center is 2.9, so to go in/out the entire distance, we could walk 5.8 miles. FYI the return trip would be more downhill. Please wear appropriate footwear, bring hiking poles if used, and do bring snacks/lunch and water. Hopefully, we will have good views from the Visitor Center!
• For those of you concern about air quality, my understanding is that if the percentage is below 100%, then it is safe to walk/hike. Also, as of Sunday thru Tuesday, a high pressure system is coming thru that will help push out some of the smokey air. On the other hand, it will be warmer, but it appears the humidity will be lower than it has been on some recent hot summer days.
