Payments Analysis with R at the SNB

After a shift in the analysis focus at the SNB, the volume of payments data to be analysed has increased more than twenty-fold. A new infrastructure for payments analysis (PA) had to be built, with the R programming language playing a key role. The new infrastructure enables efficient analysis of payments data of more than 3 million transactions/day, which corresponds to around 3 GB/day.
