SparkR in Big Data

Hi Everyone! We are excited to hold our first meetup of 2016 on SparkR in Big Data! Jim Crozier, Director of the ADP Data Science Lab, will be presenting. Hope you can make it!

We are also hiring undergraduate and graduate student-interns for Summer and Fall 2016, so please stop by with your resume! This meetup is geared towards students, and a description of the internship position is below.

Interns must be full-time students in a quantitative field (engineering, economics, statistics, etc.). Our preference is graduate students, but we are open to advanced and enterprising undergraduates with a good deal of coding and stats backgrounds.

This internship requires 20 hours per week in the Centergy One building in Tech Square during normal work hours (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday). The material covered in the lab will include regular stats tools (R, Python, Hadoop, Spark, Hive/SQL, etc.), but will focus on the communication layer of applied statistics and business analysis (unit testing, fail fast project management, source control, etc.). Course credit may be available at your school, but you will have to work with them directly to provide and manage the needed documentation.

Preferred Requirements:

·Full-time student in a quantitative field

·Coding experience in at least one of the following: R, Python, Matlab, Scala, Java, C

·Working knowledge of terminals and unix

·Firm understanding of statistics and/or econometrics, including but not limited to regression analysis, matrix algebra, and calculus

·Available on-site for 20 hours per week during regular working hours

·Experience telling stories with data

·Desire for a career in data science
