Itinerary
Friday 26th March:
Arrive at Celtic Royal Hotel. Meet for dinner at 7:30 pm in the hotel dining room.
Saturday 27th March: Newborough Sands and Llanddwyn Island
Today we take advantage of the early low tide to explore some of the finest coastal walking in Britain; the sandy beaches and dunes of Newborough sands and the tidal island of Llanddwyn dedicated to the Welsh St. Valentine, all set against backdrop views of the peaks of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsula.
Driving from the hotel we will park in Newborough and from there head out across the sands to the most southern point of Anglesey, Abermenai point for fabulous views across the Menai straits to the peaks of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsula. We follow the coast round to Llanddwyn island which there will be plenty of time to explore over lunch. From here we pick up a route through Newborough forest back to our parked cars.
11 miles ascent/descent 100 m
Sunday March 28th: Holyhead Mountain and the South Stack lighthouse.
A shorter walk today around one of the great coastal sites of Anglesey, the South Stack lighthouse and Holyhead Mountain (not really a mountain!). Parking just outside Holyhead, we pick up the Anglesey coastal path to head up and over Holyhead Mountain. From here we continue along the coast for spectacular views over the South Stack lighthouse before returning via an inland route to our parked cars.
8 miles ascent/descent 200 m
