Join us for a good walk on a nice trail. This trail has a mix of woods with Engelmann Oak, chaparral, fields, and some big views. Trail is dirt with rocks in parts. A moderate to easy loop length is about 4.5 miles, +500 foot elevation gain.
Allow 2.5 hrs. A water bottle and pocket snack is sufficient.
Dogs on leash are ok.
Dress for the weather in layers and good shoes.
No portopotties available.
Significant rains in days before may alter or cancel the hike, if so, text/call to check.
Best directions to parking lot: From I-15, north of Escondido, exit at Deer Springs Rd & Mountain Meadow Rd. Follow Mountain Meadow Rd (east) up the long hill. On top, stay to the right lane straight through a big intersection as the road splits off and now becomes Hidden Meadows Rd. At the deadend go left onto Granite Ridge for 1 block then first right (eastward) onto Meadow Glen Way E. Follow downhill and it becomes Cougar Pass Rd and becomes a dirt road. Keep following downhill to trailhead parking lot. Park anywhere in the lot or along the road.
Alternative Escondido way: Head north on N. Broadway all the way through the curvy parts to Cougar Pass Rd. (It's the next right after Reidy Canyon Pl. and before Bachelor Ln.) Follow Cougar Pass Rd, the twisty dirt road, up to trailhead parking. The dirt road sometimes has deep ruts being tricky or hazardous to drive for small cars.
