In our latest 'Get More From Data' event, we'll be discussing the use of data in a variety of sectors from Sport and Business as well as looking both forward to the future of analytics and back to the past to discuss what's changed but also the key traits of a good analyst which will remain the same regardless of technology.

Our Speakers are:

Ben Torvaney (Data Scientist - WeFarm): How to predict a football match (like it's 1997)

How do you predict a football match? Exactly how much better are Manchester City than Manchester United? How likely are Arsenal to beat Liverpool? We can begin to answer these questions with statistics.

In this talk, Ben will walk through a foundational model in football analytics: the Dixon and Coles model and will explain how it works, how it can be used, and some different ways it can be developed for the modern era of xG and Big Data.

Ben is a data scientist based in London. After 2 years working in sports betting an analytics, he now works at Wefarm, the world's largest network for small-scale farmers.

Dan Barnett (Director of Analytics - Analysis Marketing): 20 Years of Analytics

The more things change, the more they stay the same: Volumes of data and speed of updates may have changed enormously over the last 20 years, but what makes a good analyst and how to get from data to insight is still largely the same.

In this talk, Dan will be talking about his experiences with analytics at some of the biggest companies in the UK, how to think like a good analyst, how to show you know what you're talking about as well as some tips, do's and don'ts of analytics.
