Building the OpenCL ecosystem - SYCL for OpenCL
Abstract:
Writing parallel software for heterogeneous multicore processors is hard, but can give huge performance boosts. The new SYCL provisional specification from Khronos builds an easy-to-use C++ layer on top of the open standard, OpenCL. In this talk we will discuss the SYCL spec, it's goals and how it should help support the heterogeneous computing ecosystem.
SYCL is still a very new technology, having been released in March as a provisional spec to enable feedback from developers. There will be opportunities for the audience to provide input into its future direction.
Bio:
Lee Howes has been working in heterogeneous computing for a number of years with experience at NVIDIA, AMD and Qualcomm. He currently works on advanced GPU architecture at Qualcomm with a particular emphasis on external standards, respresenting Qualcomm at both Khronos and the HSA Foundation as well as serving as spec editor for the OpenCL-High Level Model working group. This particular talk is given on behalf of Khronos.
