Description:

Manny will describe how the team at LoyaltyOne utilized Spark technology to increase the performance of the legacy data transformation platform without impacting business users.

Manny has been with LoyaltyOne, Inc. for almost 15 years and has played many roles: BI Developer, Tech Lead, Manager of BI and Marketing Automation team, Scrum Master, Competency Lead, Technical Product Owner, etc.

Currently working on delivering features for L1's new DataHub environment.

Title: How to set up your own Spark Cluster on AWS

Description:

For those who want to set up their own Spark Clusters on AWS, Danny will present an alternative to services like AWS EMR and Databricks.

Target audience: Data Engineer, and Dev Ops

Level: Intermediate

Speaker: Danny Luo (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dannyluo/) is a Mathematics and Physics student at the University of Toronto who wants to go into the data science industry. Danny has completed data science projects at hackathons and with Kaggle datasets and has experience with data analysis in previous academic research positions in physics. He has a deep interest in machine learning and neural networks, as well as more advanced mathematical data analysis techniques. Lastly, Danny is investing time in learning how to efficiently work with Spark, MapReduce, parallel programming and cluster computing on AWS.

He is currently working with the University of Toronto Data Science Team on Kaggle competitions.
