Title: Zombie Apocalypse Live: Understanding Streaming Through Resilient Video Solutions
Description:
Jason Goodwin, CTO of RedElastic, gained experience with streaming when working with video at Google. He worked on the mDialog platform, used by major publishers to stream on-demand content such as AMC’s Walking Dead.
This talk will give the listener an understanding of real-world streaming. We’ll begin to understand streaming by introducing the basics of video compression, before diving into video streams that never buffer and don’t fail. The real world implications of video are addressed by reviewing different approaches to the management of infrastructure and data in high-scale streaming contexts.
The talk will be framed around an apocalypse scenario. We’ll use a live news feed to look at pathological scenarios for: 1) the viewers; and 2) the infrastructure. We’ll look at how to handle network reliability issues as people are chased into elevators, and how to handle software failures as zombies knocking down the servers that are being used to broadcast the news.
Target audience: Data Engineers
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Speaker: Jason Goodwin (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jason-goodwin-5a96978/) is CTO of RedElastic, a boutique consulting firm based out of Canada. RedElastic was founded to assist companies with strategic consulting for Reactive System design and development. Before co-founding RedElastic, Jason was using Scala to create a fail-proof, high-scale video streaming platform at a startup which was acquired by Google.

Title: IoT: Applying Machine Learning to Real-time Sensor Data on Spark and Kafka
Description: Join Adrien from Talend as he brings you a deep discussion on the real-world technologies that underlie IoT (Internet of Things). Working with real-time, streaming data from mobile phone sensors, and using tools that you can use yourself, we walk through the process of building a machine learning solution with Spark and Kafka to collect and analyze user activity. If you are using Kafka, Spark, or any real-time data technologies, or even if you are just trying to get a better understanding of them, this event is for you.
Target audience: Data Scientist, Data Engineers, Data Analysts and Spark Developers
Level: Beginner to intermediate
Speaker: Adrien (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alacombe/) is a Solution Engineer at Talend, he has been helping companies building their data strategy and help them face their architecture challenge since more than 10 years at IBM, BDNA and Talend in Europe and North America.
