Kayak Kingston Light and the Rondout Creek, Ulster County

Details

If you like history including upclose views of the 1915-built Kingston Lighthouse, the tugs, barges, and ships of the Kingston harbor, cargo trains, or maritime waterfowl including herons, osprey, gulls, and comcormants then this trip is for you.

We will meet at 530pm for 5:45 launch, heading east towards the Kingston Lighthouse. The Rondout River is calm but it may get choppy as the creek meets the tidal Hudson. We will circumnavigate the the lighthouse and enjoy this historic treasure. We then paddle back the way we came observing the maritime vessels, the waterfowl, and the Kingston waterfront. We pass under three bridgespans including beneath the rumble of trains, paddling as far up creek as the light allows before returning the way we came. Pack a headlamp and a camera with plans to use both.

Park and put-in at the Sleightsburg Kayak Launch (Coordinates: 41.92013400, -73.97471700) on North Street in Port Ewen, NY.
