Hi, everyone!

Vienna has a bunch of really beautiful city hikes. One of my favorites, and perfect for this autumn time is "Stadtwanderweg 1" at Kahlenberg. The length of the hike is approximately 11 km with ~500 meters of elevation gain. It's forecasted to be partially sunny with up to 15°C.

👋 Meeting:

We will meet at 09:50 AM inside the Linz Main Train Station (Linz Hbf) right next to the ÖBB ticket-vending-machines and the ÖBB Infopoint.

🚉 Journey:

  • 09:50 Meeting at Linz Hbf
  • 10:06 Linz/Donau Hbf => 11:14 Wien Hütteldorf Bhf || Westbahn 909 🚄
  • 11:20 Wien Hütteldorf Bhf => 11:42 Wien Heiligenstadt Bhf || S45 🚂
  • 11:52 Wien Heiligenstadt Bf => 11:57 Wien Nußdorf Beethovengang || Tram D 🚋

🎫 Train tickets:

Everyone is responsible for purchasing their own train tickets.

Pro tip: make use of the yearly Klimaticket Österreich valid on all public transportation in Austria (the card costs: 1095 EUR/year, that comes down to 3 EUR/day, or about 91 EUR/month).

▶ Activities:

We'll start the hike directly from the train station. From there we will go up the mountain for about 1h or so. It's mostly paved with the odd patch of gravel, so wear suitable footwear.
We'll take our first brake at Stefanie-Warte/Sender Kahlenberg which has a nice view. From there it gets much easier, mostly downhill.

The hike is about 11 km long, and involves about 500 meters of altitude difference. It should take us about 3-4 hours to complete it.
As there are plenty of vineyards and restaurants along the way, we will probably stop there at some point!

✅ Checklist:

  • wear sturdy & comfortable shoes;
  • wear weather-appropriate clothing;
  • bring some snacks & plenty of water for the trip;
  • bring sunscreen and a hat for sun protection;
  • bring an umbrella just in case the weather might change;

Warning:

  • It is highly recommended that you are vaccinated against the tick-borne encephalitis as Austria is considered to be a TBE risk area.
  • You are entirely responsible for your own safety & well-being during the course of this event.

📝 Notes:

  • You might find this event on different groups/platforms, it's enough if you sign-up only in one place.
  • In case of extreme weather, this event might be postponed to a later date.

Looking forward to seeing you!
