Day 1: Chilham & Godmersham Circular 17 km | 400 m elevation | Grade: Moderate - Challenging
This scenic loop through the North Downs features rolling hills, peaceful woodland, and the charming villages of Chilham and Godmersham. We’ll follow part of the North Downs Way, taking in sweeping countryside views and quiet rural paths with a few rewarding climbs.Day 2: Faversham, Oare Marshes & Luddenham Circular
18 km | 80 m elevation | Grade: Moderate
A gentle circular route exploring Faversham Creek, Oare Creek, and the wide-open landscapes of the Oare Marshes. Expect estuary views, birdlife, peaceful walking along the sea wall and rural tracks, an ideal contrast to the hills of Day 1.Accommodation - Palace Farm
We’ll stay at Palace Farm, a peaceful countryside hostel in the North Kent Downs. Accommodation is clean, simple and welcoming, set around a courtyard in converted farm buildings. The Hike:
This rewarding circular walk explores some of the most picturesque hidden corners of East Hertfordshire. Starting from Bayford Station, we quickly leave the tracks behind and venture into quiet woodland, field paths and ancient byways, passing through a tapestry of rolling countryside, shady copses and charming villages.Our first leg takes us through Bayford Wood and past the historic Bayford Hall, with sweeping views over the valley before we meander westward to the tranquil village of Essendon. Here, you’ll get a sense of Hertfordshire’s rural heritage, with timber-framed houses and a beautiful church nestled among quiet lanes. The route then continues through the undulating countryside of Bedwell Park, weaving past old farms and peaceful tracks.

Expect rolling countryside, peaceful woodland tracks, open fields, and charming villages along the way.The walk offers a lovely mix of gentle ascents and broad open views, without anything too steep or technical. With a steady pace, it’s ideal for women with a reasonable level of fitness who are looking for a bit of a challenge and a rewarding day outdoors.
Highlights:
- Beautiful countryside views and ancient beech woodlands
- Starting and finishing in picturesque Marlow, (perfect for a post-walk cuppa or pint)
- Quiet footpaths through Marlow Common, Lower Woodend, and Shillingridge Wood
