The hike:
From Princes Risborough Station, we make a short detour to visit Lyde Gardens, a tranquil public garden tucked behind the High Street. This small green space is one of the town’s hidden gems, with streams, ponds, and shady paths creating a peaceful corner before we set out into the hills. The route then heads south through fields and quiet tracks towards Saunderton. From here, the first main climb takes us up to Lodge Hill (209 m), where wide views stretch across the Vale of Aylesbury. Continuing through Callow Down and around Radnage Bottom, we weave between farms and meadows before tackling the second main climb onto Bledlow Ridge, rewarded with panoramic views across the Chilterns.
The route descends steadily towards Bledlow, passing near the edge of Bledlow Great Wood and Chinnor Hill, before looping back across open countryside via Saunderton Lee. A final stretch across farmland paths brings us back into Princes Risborough and the station, completing the circuit. The route includes two main climbs — a steady rise early on, and a sharper ascent before Bledlow Ridge — balanced by easier paths and long downhill sections.
