About the Walk:
This circular 9.8 km route combines riverside paths, rolling farmland, and centuries of local history — perfect for a relaxed day out with good company. We’ll begin in the pretty village of Standon, following its historic High Street lined with timber-framed cottages and marked by the famous Hertfordshire Puddingstone.

The route passes St Mary’s Church, dating back to the 13th century, with a striking Tudor monument to Sir Ralph Sadleir, a statesman who served Henry VIII. From here we’ll enjoy open countryside views and walk close to Standon Lordship, Sadleir’s grand Tudor manor house, before joining quiet paths beside the River Rib — a peaceful chalk stream that winds through meadows and farmland.

The route continues through Latchford and Arches Hall, crossing old fords and passing areas where local farmers are restoring wildflower meadows and habitats for wildlife. We’ll then climb gently past Dowsetts Farm and Flashes Wood before looping back along the river to finish in Standon. We’ll end our walk back in the village for a relaxed drink at The Star or The Bell (optional, not included in the price).
