Event Description:
Scenic Easy Hike from Castle Combe Village - Circular Loop walk. Cotswolds.
Often referred to as the 'prettiest village in England,' Castle Combe's timeless beauty made it an ideal location for Downton Abbey's village scenes. The Market Cross and St. Andrew's Church are just a couple of the charming spots to explore. You will have 1 hour to explore the village of Castle Combe before we start the hike. 1 hour is plenty of time to explore the prettiest village in England. Because it's a very small village. Then we start a circular Hike through the Cotswolds countryside.
Come along for a stunning countryside adventure as we hike from the picture-perfect village of Castle Combe to the historic beauty the countryside of the Cotswolds.
This route combines natural splendour, gentle hills, and centuries of fascinating history—perfect for hikers who love both the outdoors and heritage.
With its quaint stone cottages, a 14th-century market cross, and the peaceful Bybrook River, Castle Combe feels like stepping back in time. The village dates back to Roman times and became a hub for the medieval wool trade. You’ll also see St. Andrew’s Church, home to one of the oldest working medieval clocks in England.
After exploring Castle Combe, we’ll head out on a scenic hike through the Cotswolds countryside.
Starting from the historic Castle Combe which has 107 listed buildings, no street lights and no new buildings after 1600. It is much used for filming, such as War Horse, Stardust and Doctor Dolittle.
After a wander through this beautiful storybook village the walk properly began at the Castle Inn and the entrance to the Manor House. Passing through the golf course and crossing Fosse Way, making a slight detour to view the Lugbury Longbarrow. Then onwards towards Nettleton, before swinging back south to Ford.
The White Hart at Ford is a good pit stop, though it was very busy so we couldn’t have any food.
Then back northwards following the Bybrook river valley back round to Castle Combe.
There are two pubs in Castle Combe, Castle Inn and another White Hart, plus The Old Stables tearoom, also an honesty cake and tea shop on the high street.
