🚲🍺Bike the Missions & Lunch at the Blue Star Brewery Part 2!🚲🔔

Details

NOTE #1: IT'S PART 2: We saw Mission Concepcion and San Jose and now we're off to see Mission Espada & San Juan. There's more riding involved to get out to San Juan though 1st, so make sure your bike is in good repair!!! We'll ride to the farthest mission 1st, giving each mission 30 minutes to look around and enjoy the history!

NOTE #2: You need to be in relatively good shape too! This will not be a ride for the faint of heart but it's not a race either, it's just going to involve 10 miles out and 10 miles back!!

Rent your bicycle for $20 or bring your own and let's cruise these last 2 Missions and then have lunch at the Blue Star Brewery! We will ride the bicycle lane on the streets coming back to avoid a steady uphill battle, unless you're on an electric bike!
NOTE #3: IF YOU HAVE A TIRE BLOWOUT MISSION ESPADA HAS BUS TRANSPO TO TAKE YOU BACK DOWNTOWN.

The Bicycle shop is located in the Blue Star Arts Complex, next to the San Antonio River and the San Antonio Mission Trail, you will find the Blue Star Bike Shop. (Less than two miles from both the Alamo and Mission Concepcion).
NOTE #4: MUST BRING A DRIVER'S LICENSE OR VALID ID TO RENT A BIKE! Must sign a Liability waiver, but easy to do. Parking fills up fast, so get there early and park towards the back of the complex.

INFO: The Hike & Bike Trail along the San Antonio River connects all five missions in San Antonio: The Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. Each mission is about 2.5 miles from the next. This is a safe and fun way to visit the missions.
#1. Mission Concepción was founded in 1731, and is a mission chapel of St. Cecilia's Parish within the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
#2. Mission San Jose: Known as the "Queen of the Missions", this is the largest of the missions and was almost fully restored to its original design in the 1930s by the WPA (Works Projects Administration). Spanish missions were not churches, but communities with the church the focus. Mission San José captures a transitional moment in history, frozen in time.
#3. Mission San Juan: Originally founded in 1716 in eastern Texas, Mission San Juan was transferred in 1731 to its present location. In 1756, the stone church, a friary, and a granary were completed. A larger church was begun, but was abandoned when half complete, the result of population decline.
#4. Mission Espada: Found in 1690 as Mission San Francisco de los Tejas, it was the oldest church in Texas, but the current church was built in 1731 after the mission relocated to the present location. It is the most remote of the 5 missions, being 9 miles south of the Alamo. Thanks to the remoteness, Mission Espada and Mission San Juan (the nearest mission to Mission Espada) are quieter and less crowded than the other 3 missions (Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose), offering visitors a more intimate experience. While the exterior of the church looks old and barren, the interior was surprisingly well-restored and even air-conditioned! The mission compound has a couple of interesting buildings and ruins. There is also a small information center and washrooms.
