Let's check out the full moon while paddling on a river! PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS!!!
The Plan:
We'll meet at the Rockford boat ramp at 7pm, we'll put our boats in the water, and we'll paddle down a beautiful section of river near Seymour, IN. Along the way we'll watch the sunset, watch the moonrise, and hang out with some cool people.
Details:
After we meet at the ramp, we'll run the shuttle to get our vehicles to the takeout. It's a short drive to the Bell Ford boat ramp and won't take much time.
Once we return to Rockford, we'll launch and head down the river. This is a short section (roughly 4 miles). We'll cover most of our mileage prior to sunset. Once we get close to sunset or the takeout (whichever we encounter first), we'll pick an island or sand bar and set up to enjoy the show. The river along this section is mostly wide and shallow, with large sandy banks and flat sandy islands. We may have some downed trees to paddle around, but I don't expect much in our way.
Bring a chair or cushion, some beverages, and snacks and we'll hangout for a while. Once we're ready, we'll head on down the river and head for the house.
This is a FREE EVENT! If you need a rental, send me a message and I'll get you taken care of. I have solo and tandem kayaks.
WARNINGS:
LIFEJACKETS (PFDs) WILL BE WORN while paddling. This is not optional.
This is an OPEN WATER paddle. There is NO OVERHEAD COVER! Please plan accordingly with hat, sunblock, umbrella, etc.
It's going to be HOT AND HUMID! Please be prepared. Bring plenty of fluids and some snacks to keep that energy up.
We will be PADDLING IN THE DARK! The moon will be bright, so we won't be paddling in darkness. However, you will need a light source (headlamp) and some soft MARKER LIGHTS for your boat. This is a small navigable river and there is a chance that we could encounter powered watercraft. Please leave the extra bright and strobing lights at home. Headlamps and glowsticks are good.
If you have any questions, please post them in the comment section or send me a message. I know it's short notice, but this is going to be an awesome adventure! I hope a bunch of you can make it!
