West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, Lynnville Lake, and Bicycling in Owensboro, KY
Details
Let's do some adventuring in the Evansville area this weekend!
The Plan:
We're camping, kayaking, bicycling, eating at one of the largest food truck festivals in the Midwest, and watching some movies at a drive-in.
NOTE: Can't make the whole weekend? You can join me for the day as well. Send me a message if you'd like to come for any part of this adventure.
Details:
Day 1 Friday: We're meeting at Lincoln state park in Lincoln City, IN. I have reserved sites 209, 211, and 212 at Gobblers Run campground. If you would like to join me on one of my sites, please let me know. There are still plenty of campsites available if you would like to reserve your own. Check in time is 1pm EDT. I'm planning on getting to the campground early and then going for a bike ride through the park and then over to Lincoln's Boyhood Home.
Later, we're heading to the Holiday Drive-In in Reo, IN. This place has 6 screens so we'll have plenty of options. Once they post their schedule for next weekend, I'll pick a screen. You're allowed to bring your own food and drinks, but grills are not allowed. I'll be checking out the concession stand too! Don't forget to bring a chair. $12/person entry fee.
Day 2 Saturday: Wake up! Breakfast at camp. We'll leave the campground at 10am EDT and head to Lynnville lake for a paddle. Lynnville lake is an old coal pit so we'll have a unique body of water to paddle. This is also a park run by the town of Lynnville. They have a nice boat launch with canoe/kayak ramp. We'll explore the lake for a while and then head into Evansville for supper.
After we leave Lynnville, we're headed for the Fall Festival in Evansville. There will be hundreds of food trucks at this festival. There are way too many options to just start at the first truck. We generally do a walk-thru first and make notes on the places that we want to try. We'll hang out at the festival until we're full and on our way to becoming diabetics (if you're not already). Afterwards, we'll head back to camp for a fire and some social time.
Day 3 Sunday: Wake up! Breakfast at camp. Break camp and head to Owensboro, KY for a bike ride on the Adkisson Greenbelt. I'll pick a section to ride and find us a place for lunch in Owensboro before we head home. I'm looking at a 5 mile out-and-back ride for a total of around 10 miles. If you aren't sure that you want to ride that far, I can shuttle your vehicle to the turnaround point so you will only be riding half of the distance.
WARNINGS!!!
All events this weekend will have NO OVERHEAD COVER. Please plan accordingly with hat, sunblock, and water.
Bikes and kayaks are available for rent. Send me a message if you need one.
