Mid 80s and mostly sunny! Let's camp on a sand bar and check out the full moon from a different perspective!
The Plan:
We'll meet for breakfast at 8:00am at Mae's Townhouse in downtown Seymour (206 E. 4th St. Seymour, IN). They have a great looking menu with great reviews. Once we finish breakfast, we'll head to the Rockford boat ramp to drop our kayaks. We'll run the shuttle down to the Medora Covered Bridge and then head back to Rockford to begin our paddle.
This section is approximately 30 miles from Rockford to Medora. We'll be putting in where they took out that lowhead dam that I did the videos on last year. We will now see what that area looks like since nature has had its way with it. We'll have sandbars and islands the along the way to stop and enjoy the day. There is some amazing rockhounding along the way. We also have the Shieldstown and Medora covered bridges along this section. NOTE: The Medora covered bridge is the longest in the nation. We can land and check out the bridges and take some pictures. There is also lots of wildlife along this river. We generally see eagles, Great Blue heron, green heron, turtles, geese, etc.
At some point a couple of hours before it gets dark on Saturday, we'll pick a campsite that will hold us all and set up camp. We'll enjoy some conversation with some cool people while making supper and watching the sun set. We'll gather some wood and have a fire with the full moon overhead. How cool is that?
Sunday morning, we'll get up, make breakfast, and begin our day. Don't forget to bring lunch and snacks too. We'll make our way to the takeout at Medora. Along the way, there will be more exploration, swimming and general fun. Come on out!
WARNINGS:
This is a SELF-SUPPORTED overnight paddling adventure. You are responsible for carrying your own food, water, and shelter. Please plan accordingly and let me know if you have any questions. Also, make sure that your boat can handle the extra weight.
This is an OPEN WATER paddle. There is little or no shade. Please plan accordingly with hat and sunblock.
This is a 30 MILE PADDLE and we've had a lot of flooding this year. There is a possibility of DOWNED TREES that I'm not aware of. There is the possibility that we may have to move our boats over some trees.
Rentals are available. Send me a message if you would like to rent.
