Rockhounding on the Ohio River
Details
Let's do some rockhounding on the Ohio river and get supper in New Albany.
The Plan:
We'll meet at the old New Albany boat ramp. We'll paddle up river and randomly stop to look for cool stuff. Two definite stops will be the slag glass gravel bar. The picture on this event is one that I got there the last time we paddled up that way. The entire gravel bar is broken pieces of slag glass. We'll also stop at the mouth of Silver creek. There are lots of fossils and slag metal in the area. Afterwards, we'lll get supper in New Albany.
NOTE:
If you're concerned about paddling on the Ohio, this is like paddling on a big lake. There isn't much current on this section. Also, we won't have to worry about barges on this side of the river because it's mostly shallow and rocky and the lock is on the other side.
WARNINGS:
It's going to be HOT! 89 and mostly sunny. Bring fluids and some sort of electrolyte replacement (Gatorade, Liquid IV, etc.).
There will be NO OVERHEAD COVER. Bring hat and sunblock and whatever else you need to bring (umbrella) to make your adventure a good one.
Rentals are available. Message me if you need one.
