This will be an overnight trip to the Peaks of Otter in Virginia. We will hike "the peaks" ~ Sharp Top (3.5 miles) and Flat Top (4.6 miles) Mountains on Saturday after setting up camp in the established campground at the base. These trails have been rated strenuous by some. This, combined with the distance for the day = not for beginners, dogs or children, sorry. The terrain can be rocky, so please wear appropriate hiking footwear with ankle support.

On Sunday, after breaking camp in the morning, we will "warm up" with a 1.6-mile trail within the park called Fallingwater Cascades. From there we will drive approximately 30 minutes to the Apple Orchard Falls Trailhead. This will be a 5.6-mile hike before heading back to the triangle. Approximate ETA back at the carpool location is 5pm.

Participants must be self-sufficient both on the trail (i.e. raingear, lunch, snacks, etc.) for two days of hiking, and at camp (all necessities for one night of car camping). There are no showers at the campground.

The participant limit will be set at 12 with a manual waitlist thereafter. Four campsites have been reserved for this event. There is a maximum capacity, however, for 6 campers per site, tents must fit on a tent pad, and there is only room for 1 car per site. Attendee limit is therefore going to be based on how people pack for car camping, the size of vehicles, and if people will be sharing tents. Camping costs should not exceed $6-7 per person, however, as each car and site should be able to accommodate 3 people/tents without a problem. Participants are expected to share fuel costs among those in their carpool.
