(Overnight) BREVARD: Gorges State Park and Horsepasture River Waterfalls

Join THOG for a two-night camping trip in the Brevard area for some great summertime fun. This will be a weekend of waterfalls and hiking in Brevard, Gorges State Park and Horsepasture River.
Please answer the two-part RSVP question as part of the RSVP process! Only RSVP if you can participate with the group.
Our hikes will range from easy to strenuous.
Here's the plan:
FRIDAY
-Meet in Chapel Hill at 9:00AM, set up carpools, then drive 4.5hrs to Davidson River Campground. I've reserved a group campsite.
-Spend the afternoon exploring several nearby waterfalls
-Have dinner at camp or at a local restaurant
SATURDAY
-Gorges State Park Visitor Center
-Horsepasture River to hike 3 miles RT to several waterfalls which includes sliding down Turtleback Falls for those who want to do that.
-Return to the campground for dinner and a campfire.
SUNDAY
-Breakfast and break down camp
-Visit one or two nearby waterfalls before heading home.
-Option to have lunch at one of the great restaurants down the road before reaching the Triangle.
This is a car camping event. Our cars will be next to the campsite. Keep in mind we have to fit 10 (maybe 12) tents at the campsite so be mindful of the size tent you bring. The Campground has hot showers and bathrooms. Only 4 cars are allowed at the campsite so be prepared to carpool. The cost per person for camping will be about $20 based on 10 attendees for camp fees and firewood. That amount can change depending on how many come. Also, please share the cost of gas with your driver.
Bring:
Swimsuits, camping gear, camp chair, enough food and snacks for Saturday lunch to Sunday breakfast, water and daypack for hiking.

Let me know if you’ll be sharing a tent. That may allow me to increase the attendees. If you’re not sure what to bring, you can Google car camping checklists or go to REI’s website. I’m happy to answer questions, also!

I also understand that THOG organizers are not required, nor should it be assumed that they are CPR/First Aid/Wilderness Survival Certified and I am responsible for my own personal safety.
