(Late-Night) Geminid Meteor Shower Peak- Dec. 13-14: Jordan Lake Area
Details
Join THOG on the evening of Dec. 13 to early Dec. 14 to watch the peak of the Geminid meteor shower at Jordan Lake! Thanks to a near-moonless night, it's possible we can see up to 80 meteors/hour with a max of 120 per hr, especially as it nears 1AM.
We'll watch from the Farrington Point Boat Access area on the LEFT SIDE once you've entered the entrance. The access road splits so bear Left at the split
IMPORTANT: You MUST Park in the spaces furthest from the ramp per NC Wildlife Resources! Please be respectful of any possible boaters in that area. NC WILDLIFE Officers will be patrolling the area. Meet at the cars first before we sit on the beach so I know who's arrived. Also, please limit how much light you use, including phones, when you arrive so we all can adjust our eyes to the night sky.
I have an alternate site in mind if this area doesn't work out.
It looks like it may be in the 40’s during our event so be prepared to dress warm. For our comfort, I will bring hot cocoa and marshmallows for us to enjoy. I will also bring a portable power station and a couple heated blankets.
Bring:
-Blankets to sit on, lay on or warm up in
-Chair that lays flat if the blanket is not your thing
-Warm clothing
-Snacks (in case you get the munchies)
