Duke Forest Figure Eight Hike
Details
Duke Forrest is open and the new bridge over New Hope Creek is finished https://dukeforest.duke.edu/creekrestoration/ !!
We will start at Gate 26 on Whitfield Road (see map and How to Find Us). We will hike down to New Hope Creek and follow the south side of the creek to the NEW Bridge. We will cross and continue on the Concrete Bridge Trail, the Wooden Bridge Trail and then along New Hope Creek back to the new bridge. We will cross it and continue on Concrete Bridge FT to the Gate 25 to Gate 26 connector and return to the cars.
The hike is about 6.5 miles long. Half is on fire trails (= multiuse trails) and hilly but easy. The part along New Hope Creek is rocky and rooty with scrambling over rocks.
We will maintain a pace of about 3 miles per hour and take short breaks as needed. Bring water and snacks.
