Join your THOG friends for a hike at Stone Mountain State Park which offers cascading waterfalls, cool mountain streams, forests, wildlife, scenic hiking trails and a historic homestead. Stone Mountain itself is a 600-foot granite dome.

Itinerary:

We will hike a total of around 9 miles which includes the Stone Mountain Trail Loop that will take us to the top of Stone Mountain. We'll stop by a couple of waterfalls along our route, as well as the homestead at the bottom. We will hike at about a 2mph pace. Trail difficulties range from Moderate to Strenuous. Be mindful of your hiking abilities. Travel time to the park is about 2 hours.

Bring water (1-2 Liters), snacks and Lunch. We will have lunch at the top of Stone Mountain.

For your safety, hiking boots or shoes with soles that grip well are highly suggested, especially when hiking near the slope or near the waterfalls.

Expect to meet in Chapel Hill on Sunday morning to setup carpools. Plan to leave the parking lot as close to 7:30 as possible. Please be sure to share the cost of gas with your driver.
We should be back in town by 5PM.
