Advocacy Practicec Club hosts regular practice sessions for aspiring barristers.

Objective:
Advocacy sessions are a safe space to practice your advocacy, hone your skills and receive feedback from seasoned practitioners. You have the opportunity to network, and broaden your legal / procedural knowledge of different areas of the law. It is invaluable preparation for those pursuing a career at the bar or individuals seeking to practice advocacy for another purpose i.e SQE exams/ other legal role.

What to expect:
Format - You can expect to participate in an informal court case (like a moot or mock court). This is not competitive and is not formally assessed.

Advocacy - You will take on the role of an advocate (i.e Claimant or Defendant / Prosecution or Defence) and make submissions on behalf of your ‘client’. These submissions should be in line with your instructions as set out in the bundle.

Feedback: You will recieve feedback from legal professionals moderating the advocacy exercise.

What you will need:

  1. Laptop - to view papers and submissions
  2. Zoom - to join the sessions (please ensure video works)*
  3. Connect on WhatsApp +44 7717 018078 to contact the team during the session
  4. Case Papers - case papers will be uploaded to this google drive.
    Access will be granted following sign up (please ensure you use the same email address).
    Papers are released 3 days prior to the session.
  • Monday for Thursday sessions
  • Thursday for Tuesday sessions
    Please request access early. Distribution of papers may be delayed due to late sign up.

*Practice sessions are often recorded for admin purposes. APC will protect your data and seek permission prior to publication. Requests for a copy of your individual presentation are likely to be refused execpt where exemptions apply.

Joining instructions:

Zoom - all sessions are held on Zoom unless otherwise stated. The appropriate Zoom link will be sent once you sign up for the session.

In-person - if the session is in person it is likely to be in Holborn, London at the Inns of Court or in a building close by. The address will be provided in the event information please check flyers carefully. Please note, hybrid events are seldom accomodated due to technical and experiencial challenges for both moderators and advocates.
