Our own Olivia Parr-Rud is participating in our ongoing Integral Speaker's Bureau by leading a conversation on some recent study she is engaging with. From Olivia:

The greatest challenges of our time - poverty, inequality, war, terrorism, and environmental degradation - are directly linked to flawed economic systems that fail to value and support the most essential human work: caring for people and the planet. This evening, Olivia Parr-Rud will lead a conversation about how and why to create a Caring Economy. Olivia is currently studying with Raine Eisler, author of The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economy (Barrett-Koehler, 2007). In her ground-breaking
book, Raine explains how Capitalism and Socialism are both based on domination. She offers an alternative called Partnerism. She states

"As we see all around us, current economic structures, policies, and
practices are not adequately meeting humanity's material needs, much less
our needs for personal dignity, meaning, caring connection, and freedom from
violence. To develop systems that better meet both these sets of needs, we
need an economic theory based on a more complete understanding of evolution
and our place in the unfolding drama of life on this Earth. This theory must
recognize that in the course of evolution both men and women developed an
enormous capacity for caring, creativity, and consciousness - and that rules
and practices that encourage rather than inhibit this capacity are
foundational to an economic system that works for all."

Please RSVP if you can attend. We may also try to carry some of the conversation on through the forums for those who can't make it. Let me know if that appeals to you.

We'll collect donations to sustain the group and our hosting organizations, but no one will be turned away for financial reasons. This evening is part of our new Integral Speakers Series. I hope you can make it!

With gratitude to all of you and to Meetup for making this possible!
