Hike At Rockville's Stickney Hill Preserve

Details

Free one-mile hike at the 15.9-acre parcel of forest, rock, hill and ledges in Rockville, owned by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust. Land Trust board member and property steward Rob Lewis will lead the walk. Moderately paced with a steep hill and bumpy ground, with pauses to learn about the history and lore of the area. With volunteer work, trails are now in place with blazes to guide hikers.

The area was inherited by businessman John Stickney in the mid-nineteenth century. Stickney owned the mill for which nearby Paper Mill Pond is named and built a house nearby. His daughter, Caroline Alathea Stickney Creevey (1843-1920), wrote “A Daughter of the Puritans,” an autobiography about her childhood in the area of Stickney Hill.

The Manchester Land Trust is an all-volunteer organization that preserves 450 acres in six nearby towns. The Trust acquired the Stickney Hill acreage in 2016.
