River: Red Deer from Gooseberry Ledge to Cache Hill

Meeting Place: Gooseberry Ledge.

Put-in: Gooseberry Ledge.

Take-out: Cache Hill

Duration: 4 to 5 hours

River Class: Advanced

Difficulty of Rapids: Class II+.

Current Flow: Current flow rate is 44 m3/s and slowly declining; a very nice level that will provide plenty of play and surfing opportunities. All rapids are runnable.

Logistics: Unload gear at the put-in and then we will do a vehicle shuttle.

Number of participants: We need a minimum of 4 boats to run the trip.

General Description: This is a very enjoyable stretch of river, but you do need to have the appropriate gear; good paddling skills, and experience running Class II+ rapids. We will put in immediately below Gooseberry Ledge (keeners can run the Class II+ ledge) and takeout at Cache Hill.

Boats & Gear: At the expected level, this section of the river is suitable for river kayaks with airbags and solo canoes with floatation. You must have the following gear: life jacket, helmet, throw bag, wet suite or dry suite, and a bailer or pump if you are in a canoe.

General Information: When signing up for this trip, please say what you will be paddling. Before setting off, all participants will be asked to sign a Liability Waiver and provide emergency contact information.
