# Goombay Does the 2026 Maryland Polar Bear Plunge

Saturday, January 31, 2026 • Sandy Point State Park (Annapolis, MD)

Bundle up, Goombay fam—we’re charging into the Chesapeake for a cause! We’re teaming up for the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge to support Special Olympics Maryland. The 2026 Plunge runs at Sandy Point State Park on Saturday, Jan 31st at the 2:00pm wave.
The Goombay Team will meet at 12:00pm (specific location will be given closer to the Plunge date).

## Registration & fundraising

## Why we plunge

Every dollar we raise fuels year-round sports and leadership programs for more than 25,000 Special Olympics Maryland athletes and Unified® teammates. Participants typically commit a fundraising minimum (historically $100+) to earn their spot—100% worth it for the impact we make.

## Goombay game plan

  • Meet-Up Window: We’ll share our team tent location, arrival time, and group photo time once the site map & wave assignments drop.
  • Post-Plunge: Warm-up at the team tent; hot drinks, high-fives, and photos.

## Registration & fundraising

## What to bring

  • Swim gear & costume layers (fun is encouraged, safety first)
  • Old sneakers or water shoes (no bare feet)
  • Towel + dry, warm change of clothes (hat, gloves, thick socks)
  • Trash bag for wet items; ID for check-in
  • Hand warmers/blanket for the post-plunge warm-up

## Parking & entry notes

Plunge Saturday typically requires pre-purchased parking at Sandy Point; details and passes are released by organizers ahead of time—plan to secure yours early. We’ll send exact instructions as soon as they’re published for 2026.

## Health & safety

  • If you’re feeling unwell, skip the plunge and cheer—your fundraising still counts!
