Behind the political action of the Pan-African unity were many explorations into Black identity.

Join us for the third instalment of Turning Points in Pan-Africanism. In this lecture, we will discuss the role of the Nardal Sisters as incubators of Black culture and identity on the eve of Pan-African political revolution. Through examining both primary and secondary source literature, we will explore how their leadership in scholarship and literature contributed to the theoretical framework which the political movement operated on.

By understanding the significance of how the Nardal Sisters held space for Black thought and culture, particularly in the Négritude movement, we can trace the direct line between the theoretical foundations of Pan-Africanism in the diaspora and the highly politicized movement that advocated for socio-economic unity in Africa.
