🌿 About the Retreat
The Medicine Family Gathering warmly welcomes the Huni Kuin of the Brazilian Amazon for a rare and sacred gathering with the Rastafari, Taíno, and Maroon peoples of Jamaica.
Held on the lush, ancestral grounds of Breadnut Valley Estate, this immersive retreat invites participants into a powerful space of cultural exchange, ancestral remembrance, and community healing. Over four days and three nights, you will be guided through traditional ceremonies, rituals, and teachings rooted in Indigenous wisdom, reconnecting with earth, spirit, and one another.
This is more than a retreat—it is a call to remember, a chance to realign with nature, and an opportunity to experience the joy of unity in diversity.
✨ Central to this gathering are Nawa Siã and his partner, Yaka Banu, both respected young leaders of the Huni Kuin people.
Nawa Siã is a medicine singer recognized for his dedication to the chants (Huni Meka) and healing prayers (Pakarin). He has traveled widely since the age of 17, carrying his people’s songs across Brazil and beyond, and today shares his work globally on platforms such as Spotify and Bandcamp. He brings the strength and creativity of the new generation, inspired by the teachings of his elder, Pajé Kupi Huni Kuin.
Yaka Banu is an artist, mother, and member of the Mawa Isa Keneya women’s group, devoted to amplifying the voices of Indigenous women and preserving ancestral traditions. Guided by her grandfather, Pajé Kupi, she embodies both the continuity of ancient wisdom and the vitality of a new generation of Indigenous women leaders.
Together, they represent a powerful balance of masculine and feminine energy, music and prayer, continuity and renewal—a living bridge of the Huni Kuin people’s ancestral knowledge.
