Growing Our Own Scrum Masters

In the Agile Chapter at Genesis we've kicked off a new Junior Scrum Master programme. This is a first of its kind programme in NZ aiming to take people with non-traditional agile backgrounds and skill-sets and develop them into Scrum Masters. This is great for Genesis as we get some fresh ideas and energy; it's also great for the Agile job market in NZ as we aren't competing for the same talent as everyone else, plus we should end up with something even better! We will be talking through

• How the programme came to life
• How the whole chapter became an integral part of this process
• What our programme looks like and how its progressing.

This session will be interactive with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Our presenters will be Sam Fowler, Bhargavi Kotte, Felix Berghoefer and Zara Macnab.

Sam Fowler is the Agile Chapter Lead at Genesis and is also the Tribe Lead for our Digital and New Services Tribe. In his spare time, Sam enjoys scuba diving and exploring the country in his campervan.

Bhargavi Kotte is a Scrum Master working with two Data Teams and one Analytics and Insights Team. Bhargavi enjoys playing badminton and going for walks with friends and family.

Felix Berghoefer is a Junior Scrum Master, currently 2 months into our training programme of learning from the Scrum Masters here at Genesis, with the aim of becoming a Scrum Master of his own teams in July. Felix loves to spend his spare time in the outdoors diving, surfing, skiing or hiking in New Zealand's beautiful natural environment.

Zara Macnab I am a Junior Scrum Master at Genesis; each month looks slightly different as part of my training involves shadowing the Scrum Masters across the various squads. In my spare time I create jewellery and music and enjoy exploring the beautiful beaches hidden around the North Island!
