Details

The agile industry took four values and twelve principles and somehow produced hundreds of methods, an alphabet soup of certifications, and a handful of enterprise frameworks each claiming to be the silver bullet. The result is a market where two people can use the word “agile” to mean entirely different things and never realise they’re talking past each other.

This talk maps that confusion. Drawing on a blog series we co-authored, we plot the major agile certifications and frameworks across an Agile Political Spectrum, using Australian political parties as the frame of reference. PRINCE2 Agile as One Nation might sound like a joke, but comparisons will be drawn faster than you can say “please explain”.
On one side sits project-led agile, built on governance and control. On the other sits product-led agile, built on teams, customers and outcomes. Most of us learnt our agile at one end and now work alongside people who learnt it at the other.

We close where the spectrum was always pointing. Somewhere along the way the “business of agile” took over and we lost sight of the outcome we were driving towards. We’ll talk about what it takes to get back to it, and why the person in front of the room matters more than the badge on the certificate.
