In our work within organizations, we often have to face challenging and unexpected situations and sometimes these might trigger our emotional responses. The awareness and the capability to control our own emotions – what we call emotional intelligence – significantly impacts who we are in relationships and our capability to make a positive impact in the workplace. In this workshop we will explore why and how.
We will watch a funny video where individuals are victims of a prank that intentionally triggered their emotional response to an unexpected and unpleasant event. We will identity three types of reactions and the key factors that might have influenced different behaviors.
We will then brainstorm scenarios that might trigger us in the workplace and the potential impact of each of these three reactions.
• What are the consequences of reacting unskillfully?
• What is the ideal response?
• What do we need to change to switch towards the ideal response?
Through reflection and a practical pair exercise, you will learn how you can be more intentional about who you are to make a positive impact in team work.

Session Outcomes:
- Your skills can take you to a point in your career, the next step is growing your emotional intelligence that will amplify the impact you make in those around you and the depth of your relationships, both at work and in your private life.
- You will get a deeper awareness about how the lack of EI might get in the way of your success and, therefore, why you need to invest in growing your emotional intelligence.
- You will leave with some practical tips stay in control of yourself when things get difficult and avoid damaging your relationships. You will learn how to respond instead of reacting in emotionally challenging situations and show up as the leader you want to be.
