Agile Denver Kanban SIG

Details

Agile Denver Kanban SIG: is a community of practice. It is a forum for those interested in sharing and learning about applying lean thinking, lean management, including flow, pull, and kanban concepts, along with agile principles and practices. Specifically to assist with catalyzing and effectively managing change to improve their business workflow processes, and to predictably forecast and answer the question “When will it be done?” It is a special interest group (SIG) of the Agile Denver group, and is also loosely associated with the global Lean & Kanban University and Limited WIP Society.

Hello everyone,

Our next Agile Denver Kanban SIG meetup will be on Thursday, November 8 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This is our last one for 2018! REMEMBER - we "Limit our WIP" in December; we don't meetup in December!

For November we'll be graciously hosted once again by our friends at Kaiser Permanente. Thanks Steven, Britinna, and Gloria!

For the first hour deep-dive discussion, we continue alternating each meet-up, between an “advance topic” led by experienced lean and kanban practitioners, and then the next one being an “open mic/any-level topic” suggested by attendees. This month is open-mic topic.

Here are some ideas I'll throw out based on our recent Lean Coffees:

  1. WIP Limits - how to determine, how might vacations and holidays impact them, or team members leaving/being pulled-off?
  2. What strategies might we use to adress a "fire issue" when it really isn't one?
  3. What is Design Thinking? How does it fit with applying lean thinking, lean management, or agile processes?
  4. How can we use "kanban/pull" for project-based delivery?
  5. What is biggest obstacle to instituting or using "kanban/pull" with workflow processes?

Here is your chance to express which of these would most interest you (or propose one). Please reply by 10/25, using the "Comments" section below, and identify which of these is of most interest (or propose another not listed), and share some about why you'd like to see it discussed. Ex. what issue/challenge are you struggling with in your current workflow, and why do you think learning more about this proposed topic could help, or how a specific question you have related to this topic is stumping your progress?

As we see which topic gets the most interest, we'll then work with the proposer and get more details and prepare with them an outline to facilitate/guide our deep-dive. What a great deal, a free hour of kanban coaching on your specific issue!

After the deep dive (1st hour) we’ll make a just-in-time/game-time decision to continue on the deep dive-topic or switch over to the “lean coffee” format for the 2nd hour of our meeting to do some quicker hits in a just-in-time manner on a number of other topics of interest to those attending. We look forward to the sharing from our many regular attendees, and always enjoy welcoming “first-timers” to our SIG.

Take care,

Frank Vega & John Bannister
