Metrics that matter: What’s worth measuring?

Few topics spark as much debate among agile practitioners as story points and estimates. Helpful planning tools or sources of dysfunction?

We’ll open with a short talk based on an ethnographic study by Sonja Trifuljesko, diving into this controversy firsthand. Then, we’ll shift into a hands-on workshop to tackle a broader challenge: Which metrics actually help our teams, and which ones just create noise?

In the workshop, we will:

  • Map the metrics we use: What do we actually track?
  • Spot the helpful ones: Which metrics serve us, and why?
  • Examine the rest: Why do some metrics feel unhelpful, or even harmful?
  • Consider the alternatives: What would be better to measure instead?

Bring a metric you love, one you can’t stand, or a situation where you weren’t sure what to measure.

Let’s compare notes and figure out what’s really worth measuring!
