Johanna Rothman: Want Business Agility? Start With Your Managers

Details
Creating an agile culture is the key to enabling organisations, teams and individuals to be more adaptive, innovative and resilient when dealing with complexity, uncertainty and change.
In this Agile Learning Culture series, we welcome Johanna Rothman to discuss business agility. Nicknamed the “Pragmatic Manager” and famous for her frank advice, Johanna has over 20 years of experience in project and program management and is the author of 19 books about many aspects of product development.
Do your managers think “agile” is something teams do?
If so, they might buy and “install” an agile framework or tools. However, those frameworks or tools don’t create an agile culture. In order to truly create an agile culture, we need to change how we reward managers. Instead of personal deliverables, we can reward managers for reducing their decision time, being servant leaders, and clarifying the purpose of the work. When we do, we create a culture where agility can thrive.
During the session we will discuss:
• How to create management cohorts and teams.
• Visualize and measure management WIP.
• How to reduce management decision time with collaborative management teams.
• Reimagine management rewards from personal deliverables to reduced decision time and increased team and person capacity.
