Leadership through complexity

Last month, I was delighted to host an event for Leaders of Leaders where we explored the challenges of leadership in complex environments. It was an in-depth discussion with 'no holds barred'. One of the key challenge questions is what did we want the broader project community to know, to learn and to do - to be successful with the increase in complexity that project delivery professionals face into.

This session will help share some of the insights from that discussion.

To help us through the conversation – we are delighted to welcome Dr Aiden Thornton. Aiden is the Inaugural Menzies Senior Research Fellow in Leadership and Complexity at the Australian National University’s School of Cybernetics. He holds and interdisciplinary PhD in leadership, complexity. and cognition. With a mix of research, management consultancy plus international experience across Australia, Asia, and Europe – he will be well placed to facilitate discussions for the evening.

2. sharing of research on the complexity gap i.e., gap between complexity of leaders roles and their cognitive abilities
3. discussion on the types of complex issues people are facing and what makes them complex vs complicated
4. discussion on leadership capabilities required for capabilities
5. some insights from ANU Complexity Leadership Lab
