The Culture Map and Agile

Details
Join us in-person for a brief talk followed by an interactive workshop.
In today’s interconnected world, agile teams often span multiple cultures, sometimes crossing as many as 15 time zones. For some teams, the Sun truly never sets. While agile practices often draw from social psychology, much of this research is based on studies involving North American university students or military personnel—contexts that may not reflect the diversity of global teams.
How do we adapt our practices to accommodate the unique challenges of cross-cultural collaboration? How can we build trust, handle disagreements, make decisions, and communicate effectively when team members come from vastly different cultural backgrounds?
Inspired by Erin Meyer’s book, The Culture Map, this Agile Vancouver workshop will explore the impact of cultural norms on team dynamics and provide actionable strategies for improving cohesion and collaboration in cross-cultural teams.
### In this workshop, we will:
- Raise awareness of how cultural differences can inadvertently disrupt team cohesion, even with the best intentions.
- Share real-world experiences of working within cross-cultural agile teams.
- Collaborate to develop practical guidelines for creating working agreements tailored to cross-cultural environments.
This session will be facilitated as an open-space-like workshop, where participants can share their stories, insights, and challenges, and learn from one another in an interactive and collaborative environment.

This session will be facilitated by Steve Adolph, SAI Strategic Advisor, who brings extensive experience in agile practices and organizational coaching. Steve’s expertise in guiding teams across diverse contexts ensures an engaging and insightful learning experience for all participants.
